The Coding Specialist certificate prepares students to work as health information coding specialists in hospitals, health agencies, medical clinics and other health care settings that submit billing for reimbursement. Job opportunities are plentiful for coding specialists, who may also apply these courses to McLennan's two-year Health Information Technology A.A.S. degree.

A student has three years to complete the curriculum after offical enrollment in the first coding specialist certificate course.

No more than one program (HITT) course may be repeated only once during the three year time period. Failure of two program (HITT) courses or failure of one course twice will render the student ineligible to re-enroll in the program. That student will have to apply and complete as a new applicant folliwng the initial three year time period.

COMMENTS: CODING SPECIALIST CERTIFICATE: GRADE AND GPA:

Students must maintain an overall grade point average of 2.0 in the full program curriculum to progress in the program.

To be considered for credit HITT, computer,HPRS, Anatomy and Physiology and other courses to be transferred in must be taken within five years.

Studens must attend 112 hours of clinial instruction in the HITT 1167 Health Informatiion Practicum. Students may be required to travel up to 200 miles to clinical sites.

Course offerings vary semester to semester.
